Circa means approximately

Understand the calories in the food you actually eat.

Including the way you make it. Made for the meals food databases miss — your mum's stew, last night's curry, the stir-fry you make your way. Describe it, see what Circa assumed, fix what's off.

Coming soon to the App Store

Circa is for adults 18 and over. Nutrition figures are estimates for general guidance, not medical or dietary advice. Sources are listed in the app.

A Circa meal screen: a photo of a rice bowl, the sentence that described it, and an estimated 1,020 kcal with 51 g protein, 130 g carbs and 32 g fat

Type it like a note

A journal, in the words you would actually use.

Your sandwich, your rice and stew, your homemade dinner depends on the ingredients and portions you actually ate. Tell Circa in quantities you already use — two slices, a plate, half a bowl, a cup — or point the camera at it. The more you say, the fewer assumptions it has to make.

Know what's in your own cooking

One sentence becomes one meal, broken into its items.

“Two eggs fried in butter, two slices of toast and a cup of tea with milk.” You get one meal with an estimated portion, calories, protein, carbs and fat for each item — and the 5 assumptions it took to get there, named on the meal itself rather than buried.

See what it assumed

Fix what's off.

An assumption is not a caveat hidden in small grey type — it is the product. Circa names the ingredients and quantities behind every estimate, so you can see the one that is wrong and change it.

It assumed one tablespoon of cooking oil absorbed by the bowl you ate, rather than the total oil used in the pan. You used two. Change the amount and the meal total follows — from 734 to 854 kcal, before you save it.

Changing one amount keeps the rest of the meal as it was. Saving an estimate does not turn it into a measurement, so a corrected meal still carries the mark that says it was estimated.

What it's good at

Food as it is actually made and eaten.

Home cooking

The stew, the curry, the stir-fry — meals no packaged-food database knows. Describe them in the portions you use: a plate, a bowl, two rotis, a cup.

Restaurant and takeout

Describe your order the way you would describe it to a person, then check what the estimate assumed.

Photos, when typing is a chore

Take one or pick one from your library, then check the words Circa read from it before it estimates.

Being corrected

Change an amount, or say what was different — the ingredients, or how it was cooked — and Circa estimates the meal again.

Honest uncertainty

Every number is an estimate and looks like one. Saving a meal does not turn it into a measurement.

Keeping your words

What you typed is kept as you typed it. If an estimate fails, your sentence and your photo are still there — nothing to retype.

The Circa targets screen: 2,470 kcal, 145 g protein, 342 g carbs and 58 g fat, with the plan behind them — lose fat, goal weight 76 kg

A plan built on your weight and goal

Targets that show their working.

Lose fat, maintain or gain. Set a goal weight and see a steady path to it, with daily calories, protein, carbs and fat worked out for you — not a generic diet template. Each number comes with the reason behind it and its sources, and nothing changes unless you change it.

Your plan, and how it's going

Weigh in by hand, or bring it in from Health.

See your weight over time against your goal, and how far there is to go. Apple Health is optional and read-only: Circa reads your body weight to add weigh-ins, and writes nothing back to it.

Saved meals

Save your version. Log it again.

Your usual breakfast, your regular order, your own recipe. Save the corrected version with its items and assumptions, then log it again without starting over — no new analysis, and nothing to correct twice.

Your data, explained

Clear about the data that makes Circa work.

Circa needs an account, your profile and plan, the meals you log, your meal photos and subscription information to do its job. Its Privacy Policy sets out what is collected, what is sent to the services that produce an estimate, what stays on your device, and what deleting your account removes.
